’m beginning my sixth term in office at a very exciting time. Even after all the hard work and planning, I find the reality of what we have accomplished to date at the recreation complex just awesome. We have a beautiful new baseball stadium with a competitive team and just watching the enjoyment on the faces of people attending the games has made it all worthwhile. I’m looking forward to that same positive reaction when the French Creek Family Y.M.C.A. opens this Spring.

The years of 2008 and 2009 kept us busy and brought about some notable accomplishments. In addition to all the work that has gone into the recreation complex, we have still completed many projects in other areas of the city, including the long awaited widening of Detroit Road. You will find more information on our projects in subsequent pages.

Even though the country has seen the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression of the 1930’s, the City of Avon has experienced long-term development that keeps it financially stable and keeps our revenue increasing. This is being accomplished through careful planning and cooperation among the various departments. Our bond rating of Aa2 by Moody’s is the highest that can be obtained by a city the size of Avon.

As Avon continues to grow, its stable financial condition allows us to make the improvements and add the services necessary to keep pace with that growth, benefiting both residents and businesses. We at City Hall constantly strive to maintain and improve upon the quality of life Avon offers. I feel our city is a great place to live and work and I am proud to say that I am the fourth generation of my family to call Avon home.
